70-Year-Old Man Who Was Attacked by a Bear in İzmir Seferihisar Lost His Life

In a tragic incident that occurred in the Seferihisar district of İzmir, a 70-year-old citizen lost his life as a result of a bear attack while resting in front of his house. The incident took place at night in the Karakoç location of Doğanbey Mahallesi, affiliated with Seferihisar. According to the information obtained, an elderly man named Osman Güntaş became the target of a bear that descended into the area while he was sleeping on a couch in front of his house. Upon bystanders noticing the situation and immediately reporting it to the 112 Emergency Call Center, health and gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the area. However, despite all interventions, the elderly man could not be saved and lost his life.

Considering the details of what happened in the region at the time of the incident, it is seen that the elderly man was in a vulnerable situation. While Osman Güntaş was sleeping quietly on the couch in front of his house, the bear approaching the area unfortunately carried out a fatal attack. Those who noticed the situation quickly notified the authorities, ensuring that emergency response teams arrived at the scene. Gendarmerie and health teams arrived at the scene shortly after and provided first aid to the injured. It is evaluated that various measures should be taken in the region to prevent such wild animal attacks.

Severely injured Osman Güntaş was taken to Seferihisar Necat Hepkon Devlet Hastanesi after the first intervention made by health teams at the scene. The elderly man, who was determined to have a life-threatening condition, was transferred to Dokuz Eylül University Research and Practice Hospital for further medical intervention after the initial treatment processes there. Specialist doctors mobilized for Güntaş, who was taken under intensive care at the hospital. Despite all medical efforts and interventions being maintained, the elderly man's body unfortunately could not recover from these severe injuries. Despite the life-saving efforts made by the doctors, Osman Güntaş passed away.

Following this sad incident, security and nature conservation measures in the region were raised to the highest level. Along with the gendarmerie teams, the personnel of the Doğa Koruma ve Milli Parklar Şube Müdürlüğü launched a large-scale investigation and search operation in the area where the incident occurred. Detailed studies are being carried out to find the bear that carried out the attack and to ensure the safety of other citizens living in the region. Authorities warned the local people to be careful and to notify the authorities when necessary.
