Narcotic Operation in Malatya: 7 People Detained, Large Amount of Drugs Seized

Malatya Province Police Department Narcotic Crimes Branch teams carried out a decisive operation aimed at preventing drug trade and use throughout the province. This operation, targeting drug dealers known as 'street vendors' and referred to locally as 'torbacı', was conducted simultaneously in both the city center and Hekimhan district. In the studies, long-term physical and technical surveillance methods were used to determine the movement patterns and residences of the suspects. After the intelligence information was verified, a detention decision was issued for 8 suspects against whom sufficient suspicion was formed, and they were effectively caught during the operation. Police teams succeeded in seizing a large amount of drugs ready to be released onto the market during raids on the suspects and their addresses. The process of referring the suspects to judicial authorities after the completion of their procedures at the police station was initiated, and details of the legal process began to clarify.

During detailed searches at the suspects' homes and on their persons, various drugs in serious quantities were seized. As a result of the meticulous work of the Malatya narcotic teams, 724 synthetic pills, 136 grams of synthetic cannabinoid (which causes drug effects and addiction), and 77 ecstasy pills frequently found in entertainment venues were found and confiscated. Additionally, 4 grams of methamphetamine and 3 grams of marijuana were safely obtained by the teams during the searches. This operation was determined to be of great importance in preventing the distribution of these substances to young people via street vendors, and the supply in the market was significantly cut. After the seized drugs were examined and recorded as evidence, legal proceedings against the suspects were completed swiftly.

The 8 detained suspects were brought before the court at the courthouse after being referred following their statement procedures and health checks at the police station. Following the intense legal negotiations at the Malatya Courthouse, the investigation and prosecution processes regarding the suspects were evaluated. Taking into account the criminal histories of the suspects, their active roles within the scope of the operation, and the quantities of drugs seized, the judiciary made decisions on detention and release. As a result of the evaluations by the prosecutor's office, it was assessed that some of the suspects posed a threat to public safety and could not overcome the laws. The court panel announced its reasoned decision, taking into account the state of the evidence and the defendants' statements.

In the assessment made following the interrogation and judicial control, a detention decision was issued for 7 of the 8 suspects on charges of 'drug trafficking' and 'providing drugs'. These 7 suspects, against whom there was sufficient and strong suspicion of crime, were sent to prison and delivered to a closed institution to be tried while detained. These detentions were characterized not as a temporary solution to the fight against drug dealers in the province, but as a sign that the legal process was working and criminals would be punished. Authorities emphasized that the operation would not stop and that other dealers engaged in similar activities would be identified and receive the punishment they deserved.

Regarding one of the suspects referred to the courthouse within the scope of the operation, a decision was made to release them under judicial control conditions instead of detention. This suspect was released to be tried without detention on the condition of being subject to certain restrictions such as a foreign travel ban and signing in at certain intervals. The court decided that there was no need to continue the detention of this person, but that judicial control conditions would be sufficient. The Malatya Province Police Department announced that operations against drug dealers and their suppliers disturbing the peace and security in the city would continue uninterrupted and with determination. It was stated that the support and tip-offs from citizens played a major role in the success of these operations, and information was given that every segment of society should contribute to this struggle.
