Mısır Decides to Continue with Technical Director Hossam Hassan Despite Explosions Against Arjantin

The Mısır Football Federation announced that it has extended the contract of technical director Hossam Hassan until 2030, immediately following the controversial defeat against Arjantin in the recent World Cup. Federation president Hany Abo Rida stated that the board of directors approved the decision to extend the contracts of Hassan and team director Ibrahim Hassan. This decision clearly reveals Mısır's goal of going to the next World Cup with the current technical director. The federation, a high-level institution, demonstrated its full confidence in the technical staff with this move. The contract extension emphasized stability, having been made despite all the tense events that occurred during and after the tournament.

Hossam Hassan was appointed head of the Mısır national team in Şubat 2024 and quickly initiated a significant transformation within the team. About a year after taking office, he delivered a successful performance by reaching the semi-finals in the Africa Cup of Nations, and this performance was considered an indicator of the positive atmosphere within the team. Afterwards, he managed to draw attention with the brave football he displayed in the World Cup. In particular, the match played against Arjantin in the round of 16, where they led 2-0 until the 79th minute, went down in history as Mısır's biggest breakthrough in the tournament. Despite coming agonizingly close to achieving a historic victory and advancing to the next round as a great source of pride, Mısır was eliminated from this round and had to bid farewell to the tournament.

However, Hassan's impact in the World Cup was not limited only to on-field tactics; he was also brought to the global agenda with his statements in press conferences. While there was no sporting result yet, his speeches openly expressing his support for the Filistin people caused a huge reaction. In the later days of the tournament, his statements brutally criticizing the referee performance after the Arjantin match became the number one topic of discussion in the sports community.
