OpenAI Unveils GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna Models in Limited Preview with US Government Coordination

OpenAI has announced the GPT-5.6 family of AI models, consisting of three variants: Sol for complex tasks, Terra for high-volume business use, and Luna for fast, low-cost everyday work. The models are initially available to only about 20 organizations after previewing plans with the U.S. government, following an executive order by President Trump on AI safety. A broader release is expected in the coming weeks. The limited rollout also comes after the U.S. imposed export controls on competitor Anthropic over security issues with its Claude model.
