10-year-old Sebastián Corro rescues animals from the rubble in the earthquakes in Venezuela

After the major double earthquake that occurred in Venezuela on June 24, 2025, 10-year-old Sebastián Corro volunteered to join the search and rescue efforts. Sebastián, whose grandfather Cristóbal Corro is a member of a local brigade, showed great courage by rescuing two pets trapped under the rubble in the Caraballeda area.

Sebastián, who was given the nickname 'Venezuela's topitos' by the Mexican rescue teams (Los Topos) for his bravery, had the opportunity to work with teams from Brazil, Chile, and the USA. Walking the area step by step as a fully equipped rescuer, the boy states that he wants to become a professional rescuer responding to international disasters when he grows up.

Sebastián and his grandfather are on duty at shelters along the La Guaira coast and support food distribution logistics. Although the child is not allowed inside collapsed buildings for safety reasons, he still managed to rescue another cat and a dog from the rubble. According to UN data, 2,786 professionals from 31 countries served in the earthquakes, where more than 4,800 people lost their lives.
