New Range Rover Velar Imitates Peugeot 408: Fully Electric Transformation!

The automotive world is counting down the days for the introduction of the new generation Range Rover Velar, developed under Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). The current model, which has been on the market for about ten years, had managed to attract attention with its stylish design. Following the official announcements made by the company earlier this year, all eyes have turned completely to this new SUV model. The new generation of the vehicle, which holds a significant place in the premium segment, will be introduced with a much more radical change than expected. The new Range Rover Velar, whose testing processes continue at full speed, is planned to be officially introduced before the end of 2026. Recently leaked spy footage reveals that the vehicle will have a completely different and highly ambitious design line. The model, which will be built on the company's newly developed Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) platform, largely departs from the traditional SUV form. In particular, the 'liftback' design language, which entered our lives with the Peugeot 408 and features a high ground clearance but a sloping roofline, will be the most prominent feature of the new Velar. This innovative design approach is expected to reinforce the sporty appearance of the vehicle and significantly increase its aerodynamic performance.

When we take a closer look at the design details of the new model, a noticeably lower roofline stands out compared to a standard SUV model. The sloping rear glass design to be used on the vehicle gives the Velar a unique silhouette, caught somewhere between a fully-fledged sedan and an off-road vehicle. This design language also brings to mind the Jaguar Type 01 model, which was introduced in the past period and reflects JLR's new design language. Considering that both models share the same modular platform, it seems inevitable that the new generation Velar will also adopt a similar design philosophy. The striking 3.2-meter long wheelbase of the Jaguar Type 01 will likely appear on the new Velar as well, offering a spacious interior.

Range Rover's long-envisaged vision of becoming a fully electric brand will be realized with the new Velar. The new generation model is expected to be equipped with an 800-volt architecture and thus achieve charging performances that set the standards for its class. It is anticipated that a large-capacity battery pack exceeding 110 kWh will be used in the vehicle's infrastructure. Thanks to this advanced technology battery, the vehicle is aimed to offer a range of over 500 kilometers on a single charge. Although the technical details of the electric motors have not yet been officially announced, the fact that the EMA platform is also compatible with hybrid power units makes the launch of a hybrid version with a range extender a strong possibility.

With all these developments coming into play, the introduction date of the Range Rover Velar coinciding with the last quarter of 2026 stands out as a strong possibility. The vehicle, which continues its track and road tests, is seen to be getting one step closer to mass production every passing day. According to the evaluations of the editors, the new Velar will offer a much more efficient driving experience than gasoline SUV models thanks to its aerodynamic structure.
