Drug Operation in Ankara: 63 Suspects Detained

As part of a large-scale investigation conducted under the coordination of the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, a comprehensive operation was carried out against individuals engaged in drug trafficking. During the investigation, suspects were tracked down who were found to be sharing content on social media platforms that glamorized and encouraged drug use. Following detailed physical and technical surveillance by law enforcement units, it was announced that detention orders were issued for 119 suspects. Teams from the Ankara Police Department's Narcotics Crimes Division took action to determine the suspects' addresses one by one and carry out simultaneous raids. The operation was stated to aim at dealing a major blow to the drug networks in the city.

In the simultaneous operations conducted, 63 of the 119 suspects, for whom detention orders had been issued, were successfully apprehended and detained. During detailed examinations by law enforcement, it was revealed that 26 of the detained suspects had previously been in prison for different crimes they committed. This situation revealed that the apprehended individuals had prior criminal records and had faced the law multiple times. Meanwhile, police teams continue their field operations uninterruptedly to nab 30 suspects who have not yet been caught and have arrest warrants issued against them. It was reported that security measures have been tightened at all entry and exit points to ensure the fugitive suspects are handed over to justice as soon as possible.

During meticulous searches conducted by police teams at the suspects' addresses, numerous illegal and criminal materials were seized. During the searches, varying quantities of drugs were found, along with 1 precision scale used for weighing these substances. Additionally, 2 cannabis grinder attachments used in the preparation of drugs and 3 drug paraphernalia items were recorded by the police. The evidence obtained confirmed that the suspects acted not only for their own personal use but also for commercial purposes, selling these substances to others. All this evidence was placed under protection to serve as the most crucial proof of the suspects' crimes during the judicial process.

Along with drugs, illegal weapons and ammunition were also found at the addresses where the operation was conducted, demonstrating how dangerous the dimensions of the suspects' activities had become. Among the items seized during the raids were 1 unlicensed handgun, 2 magazines belonging to this handgun, and a total of 28 handgun cartridges. In addition, 1 blank-firing gun was confiscated by the teams, as it was believed to have been used in illicit activities. The presence of weapons reveals that drug trafficking gangs resort to such arms both in their own internal conflicts and to protect themselves against security forces. Security forces emphasized that drugs and weapons are often elements of intertwined criminal networks and that the operation was a critical step in eliminating this threat.

In this large-scale narcotics operation, the suspects' money obtained from illegal drug trafficking was also pursued. During the searches at the addresses, a total of 38 thousand Turkish Liras and 250 Euros in cash, suspected to belong to criminal proceeds, were found. While it is assessed that this seized cash amount could be a portion of the revenue from drug sales, it was stated that necessary financial investigations have been initiated regarding the fate of the money. Police teams began referring the 63 detained suspects to the courthouse after their health procedures were completed. While the suspects are expected to be referred to the court for arrest after the prosecutors complete their interrogations, it was learned that the investigation continues at full speed to find the other individuals who have not been caught within the scope of the operation.
