Bangalhalia union, located in Rajasthali upazila of Rangamati district in Bangladesh, faced a major disaster due to heavy rains and flash floods from the mountains that have been prevailing for six to seven days. Yusup Hasan, the Rajasthali Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) or district administrator, conducted a field visit on Saturday at noon to assess the extent of the disaster's impact on the area firsthand. The official assessed the situation by individually visiting severely damaged roads, submerged agricultural and business areas, and affected families. Hasan, who listened to the challenges faced by the victims through one-on-one meetings during the visit, promised that urgent and necessary steps would be taken to address their grievances. This visit was recorded as part of a comprehensive field survey organized to officially determine the extent of the damage in the area and to boost public morale.

During the inspections, administrator Hasan closely examined the erosion and subsidence that occurred particularly on the Kakrachhari road. He met with local residents to exchange views regarding the condition of this main road, which became unusable due to the heavy rains. Stating that the necessary administrative processes for the road's repair work would be initiated immediately, Hasan emphasized that they would do their best to ensure the daily transportation and commercial activities of the public return to normal as soon as possible. Otherwise, it was noted that there is a risk of complete cessation in the delivery of food and essential goods to the region. The local people expressed their satisfaction with the officials' visit and their hope that the promised repair work would physically commence as soon as possible.

One of the biggest blows the rains and mountain floods dealt to the region's economy occurred at the poultry farm of Muhammed Sadek, a young entrepreneur and president of the upazila Youth League. Approximately one thousand five hundred chickens perished as a result of unexpectedly rising waters flooding the farm. This situation caused the entrepreneur to face a serious financial loss of over five lakh (approximately half a million Bangladeshi takas). As part of his inspection tour, UNO Yusup Hasan also visited this business and closely inquired about the situation of the young entrepreneur who suffered massive destruction. After seeing the extent of the damage firsthand, the official assured that they would initiate the necessary steps regarding how emergency support could be provided to the entrepreneur from state resources.

The region's infrastructure problems have not been limited to roads and businesses; long-standing drainage and waterlogging issues have also become more critical following this disaster. The section of Bangalhalia bazar known as the Hindu Mahallesi has suffered from waterlogging and inadequate drainage systems for years. The official, who also inspected the occupied drainage channels during his visit, stated that the insufficient water drainage system has made the water pools in the area permanent. He promised that a comprehensive action plan would be implemented to make the water drainage systems operational again, fundamentally solve the waterlogging problems, and establish a permanent infrastructure by clearing the channels of illegal occupants.

At the end of the field inspection, UNO Yusup Hasan, making statements to the local public and members of the press, stated that a list is being swiftly compiled to identify all affected families. He added to his remarks that the local government has mobilized all its resources for the repair of damaged infrastructure and roads, and that they are making utmost effort to heal the public's wounds. Not only administrative personnel but also many local politicians and prominent figures from the community accompanied this comprehensive field visit, demonstrating solidarity. Upazila administrative officer Muhammed Cahangir Alam, project implementation office officials, and various civil society representatives of Bangalhalia Birliği actively participated in the inspections to show their support for the disaster victims. It is aimed for the region to recover from the disaster's effects as soon as possible and to attain a more resilient infrastructure through the joint efforts of local governments and the public.
