Reaction from press organizations to the detention of journalist Alican Uludağ

Basın Konseyi, Çağdaş Gazeteciler Derneği, DİSK Basın-İş and Türkiye Gazeteciler Sendikası (TGS) reacted to the detention of journalist Alican Uludağ, citing his social media posts as the reason. In joint statements made by professional organizations, it was emphasized that targeting the journalist due to his professional activities is unacceptable and his immediate release was demanded.

In their statements, the organizations considered journalists facing the threat of detention and arrest due to their routine activities, such as producing news and sharing information on social media, as a direct intervention in press freedom. DİSK Basın-İş pointed out the repetition of the process, recalling that Uludağ was previously arrested for similar reasons and released at the first hearing.

Türkiye Gazeteciler Sendikası stated that journalism does not solely consist of making news, but also includes critical evaluation and investigation. Professional organizations condemned the detention practice, stating that the pressure on journalists restricts the public's right to receive news.
