Georgian Gang Dismantled in Bulgaria: 3 Detained, Including an Interpol Wanted Suspect

A successful police operation carried out in the Burgas region of Bulgaria led to the dismantling of an organized crime gang consisting of Georgian citizens who stole from parked vehicles. The increasing vehicle thefts along the southern Black Sea coast were resolved thanks to close coordination between local police teams and criminologists across the country. The course of events revealed that the gang operated extremely quickly and professionally. Authorities announced that they are determinedly fighting against the security threat posed by foreign nationals in tourist areas. Following the capture of the suspects, a judicial process was initiated to remedy the grievances of tourists and locals in the region.

The operation first began when police teams caught a 53-year-old Georgian citizen red-handed in the "Bunite" area near Aheloy. The suspect was caught red-handed while stealing from a Russian-plated "Ford C-Max" vehicle. Following the incident, a detailed search of the suspect's vehicle yielded a special electronic device that blocks remote control signals. This technological device, also known among the public as a "blocker," prevents the car doors from locking even when the vehicle owners press the lock button. While victims thought their vehicles were safely locked, thieves opened the doors without any difficulty, sneaked inside, and stole valuable items. This highly complex method revealed that the gang was planned and technically equipped.

Immediately after the first detention, police teams took action to apprehend a second suspect determined to be involved in the incident. The teams nabbed a 46-year-old Georgian citizen in the village of Ravda while traveling in a Georgian-plated "Audi A6" vehicle. The arrest of this individual proved that the criminal network was not limited to just one person and had a wider network. Criminal teams deepening their work reached a third individual within the theft scheme. It was stated that this person was one of the key figures in the events and was about to be caught by the police. Thus, within the scope of the rapidly expanding operation, the names acting as the ringleaders of the criminal organization were identified one by one.

As the investigations expanded, police teams stopped the third suspect with a patrol vehicle at the entrance to the city of Ruse. An identity check conducted on the individual brought an unexpected and highly critical result to light. It was understood that this person was a fugitive wanted internationally by Interpol with a Red Notice issued against him. In a statement made by Zlatan Daskalov, Head of the Pomorie Regional Unit, it was emphasized that the suspect in question was wanted due to crimes he was alleged to have committed in different countries previously. This finding was of a nature to prove that the criminal gang had not only a local, but also an international background and history. This development brought forth the possibility that the dimension of the incident could be large enough to attract the attention of international security units.

According to investigation data, the gang was working highly actively, continuing its criminal activities without slowing down. It was confirmed that the suspects targeted at least four different parked vehicles in the Burgas region within a single week, stealing money and goods totaling approximately 1000 Euro from these vehicles. Although the plundered amount may seem relatively small at first glance, the frequency of the actions and the sophisticated nature of the technical methods used clearly demonstrate the potential danger of the gang. While new evidence is being gathered regarding the entirety of the criminal organization, the judicial process has been initiated as an expedited investigation file under the supervision of the prosecutor's office to be meticulously operated. The police continue to collect evidence uninterruptedly to document other potential crimes committed by the gang and to identify potential new victims.
