31 suspects detained in modem fraud operation across 7 provinces, including Bursa

A large-scale operation centered in Kayseri and spanning seven different provinces, including Bursa, has dismantled a criminal organization that defrauded citizens using modem fraud methods. As a result of coordinated follow-ups by police units, simultaneous raids were conducted, initiating a process against the fraud network, during which numerous suspects were detained. The operations targeted an organized structure that called citizens demanding money under the pretext of technological devices or modems.

A total of 53 detained suspects were referred to the judiciary after the completion of their procedures at the police station. 31 of the suspects were released on probation by the prosecutor's office on the grounds that there was strong suspicion of their guilt, while the other suspects were evaluated regarding requests for judicial control or release situations. The detained individuals are considered to be part of the leadership cadre of the organization and to have managed the financial flow of the operation, and it is stated that investigations into the depths of the operation are still ongoing.

It is estimated that in this fraud method, suspects called people on the pretext of internet services or modem malfunctions and demanded money transfers by feigning a security vulnerability. Such phone frauds are frequently preferred by gangs trying to make easy money by targeting the elderly population or those not very involved with technology. Police officials emphasize that similar operations will continue to deter such networks and raise public awareness, and that the process is being followed meticulously.
