New Israel Attack on Gaza: 2 Dead, Many Injured

According to information received from Palestinian emergency service units, at least two people were killed and many others injured in a new Israeli airstrike on Gaza City. The attack was reported to have targeted a group of people on Ömer el-Muhtar Street, located in the center of the city. Health teams in the area were quickly dispatched to the scene to treat the injured. No official statement has yet been made regarding the identities of those killed and injured in the attack. The incident caused tensions in the region to escalate once again.

The Israel Defense Forces continue to frequently conduct military operations in the small Palestinian territory, despite the ceasefire agreement declared with Hamas in Ekim 2025 under pressure from the USA. Israeli officials claim that these attacks target Hamas-affiliated militants and that these individuals threaten Israeli soldiers. Additionally, Israel alleges that the targeted individuals participated in or were connected to the bloody attack on the southern region of Israel on 7 Ekim 2023. The Israeli military emphasizes that continuing such operations is essential for their security. This situation raises serious questions about whether the ceasefire agreement is being implemented in practice.

Hamas and Israel continue to accuse each other of violating the ceasefire agreement. Nikolay Mladenov, the envoy of the structure appointed by USA President Donald Trump and known as the so-called "Gazze Şeridi Barış Konseyi", explicitly stated that both sides have violated the agreement. Mladenov's statements revealed how vulnerable the fragile peace process in the region is. The international community calls on both parties to reduce tensions and remain committed to the agreement. However, the lack of mutual trust leads to diplomacy channels remaining dysfunctional.

Indirect negotiations regarding the implementation of the agreement terms, referred to as the so-called "second phase" between the parties, are ongoing, but no progress has been made. The second phase envisioned the disarmament of Hamas and the gradual withdrawal of Israeli soldiers from Gaza, where the Israel Defense Forces hold nearly half of the coastline. However, Hamas firmly rejects the disarmament condition, stating that it finds this unacceptable. Israel, on the other hand, insists on maintaining its military presence. Due to these fundamental disagreements, the negotiations have been unable to reach the desired outcome.

According to figures announced by the Ministry of Health of the Hamas administration and considered reliable by the United Nations (UN), more than 1,060 Palestinian civilians have been killed since the ceasefire went into effect. A large portion of these deaths consists of vulnerable civilians such as children and women. During the same period, the Israeli army announced that it lost four personnel in its ranks, according to Reuters news agency. While the humanitarian situation in the region deteriorates day by day, international human rights organizations warn that urgent action must be taken to protect civilians. The efforts of international mediators to end the war also appear to have been fruitless so far.
