Chain traffic accident in Gümüşhane: 1 injured, 1 driver fled

A chain traffic accident that occurred on the Gümüşhane-Trabzon highway within the borders of Mescitli village, attached to the Gümüşhane center, caused concern and sorrow in the region. Beyond the material damage, the injury of a passenger and the escape of one of the drivers from the scene increased the severity of the situation. This incident involving three vehicles brings the issue of highway safety and driver attention back to the agenda, while it was stated that possible loss of life was narrowly avoided.

According to detailed information obtained, the accident began with the automobile under the control of Samet K., traveling in the direction of Gümüşhane to Trabzon, hitting the vehicle under the management of Yakup Ç. from behind while traveling in the same lane. The vehicle, which lost control and was thrown by the force of the first impact, also hit another automobile under the control of Erol S. driving in front, completing the chain traffic accident. These consecutive collisions caused temporary disruptions on the highway, while the shock effect of the event was also felt by the local people.

Following the accident, 112 Emergency Health teams, police, gendarmerie, and firefighters were dispatched to the area to intervene within a very short time and started intensive work at the scene. Ali Ç., a passenger in one of the vehicles, was slightly injured as a result of the impact, and after the first intervention by the health teams at the scene, he was taken to Gümüşhane State Hospital by ambulance. The injured person was taken into treatment here, and monitoring of his health condition began, and it was learned that there was no life-threatening risk.

During the inspections and observations regarding the incident, it was determined that Samet K., the driver of the automobile with license plate 29 AAR 130, which was involved in the accident and hit from behind, fled the scene by leaving his vehicle after the collision. This situation changed the legal dimension and investigation process of the incident, while studies were initiated by security forces to catch the fleeing driver. The incident, where driver negligence and escape are at the forefront, continues to be investigated in detail after the inspections carried out on the closed road.

Due to the chain accident, traffic flow was closed in a controlled manner for a while to allow passage from a single lane of the highway. The work to be carried out for the removal of vehicles from the road, taking safety precautions, and conducting necessary inspections was carried out with the coordinated work of the teams arriving at the scene. After the completion of the works, the road was reopened to vehicle traffic as a single lane and returned to normal flow.
