Youth Going to See His Girlfriend in Hindistan Attacked by Relatives: His Last Phone Call Was to His Mother

A horrific act of violence occurred between families due to a romantic relationship in the Kaushambi district of Hindistan's Uttar Pradesh state. A nineteen-year-old youth named Shiva Prasad went to his girlfriend's family home at night to see her. However, this visit ended in a tragic outcome; as the girl's family members caught Shiva Prasad and started to beat him savagely. This ruthless attack, carried out using sticks and sharp objects, has once again brought to light the frequent acts of violence seen in Hindistan in the context of honor crimes and the prohibition of relationships based on the caste system. The youth lost his life while his family was trying to rush him to the hospital.

One of the most heartbreaking details of the incident is that Shiva Prasad called his mother, Kunti Devi, asking for help shortly before losing his life. During the phone call, it was reported that the youth, crying and begging his mother to save him, said, "Mother, come quickly and save me, they will kill me." The youth informed his mother that he was being attacked by his girlfriend's father Rakesh, brothers Sachin and Durgesh, Rakesh's wife Gendiya, and grandfather Gulzar. The magnitude of the violence was so great that the young girl's relatives were alleged to have used heavy and lethal weapons such as iron rods, an axe, and a spear. But the phone call reveals the desperation of the youth, who lost his life before his family could come to his aid, and the terrifying moments experienced.

During the attack, not only Shiva Prasad but also his girlfriend, who was involved in the argument, was slightly injured. It is reported that the girl also sustained minor injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the district hospital where she is located. It is thought that security measures may have been taken at the hospital and the girl's statement will be taken once her condition becomes suitable. It is stated that following the incident, the girl's family fled and the police set up teams to reduce tensions in the area. This situation has gone on record as a typical example showing how the coming together of people from different castes or families in Hindistan can turn into tragic social conflicts and domestic violence.

Shiva Prasad's father, Ram Badan Lodhi, went to the police at six o'clock in the morning after the incident and filed an official complaint. In line with the father's statement and petition, local law enforcement officially launched a murder investigation. The Kaushambi police department established three separate special investigation teams to catch the perpetrators and fugitive suspects, launching a large-scale operation in the area. Additionally, police spokesmen guaranteed the local public that the investigation is being handled in full detail and that no one can escape the law. Authorities also emphasize that awareness campaigns should be conducted among the youth in the area to prevent similar incidents.

In the process of deepening the investigation, important steps were taken to collect the suspects' statements, and two suspects thought to be involved in the incident were detained and interrogated. It is believed that the statements of these detained suspects will play a key role in determining exactly how the incident occurred and who is responsible to what extent. Police teams are continuing intensive search efforts in the area to deliver the other suspects, who are still wanted, to justice as soon as possible. The body of the young man was sent to the hospital for an autopsy to definitively determine the cause of death and the types of wounds on his body. Every year in Hindistan, hundreds of youths fall victim to such brutal murders due to inter-caste relationships or romantic bonds disapproved by families, and this situation creates serious human rights debates across the country.
