'Learning City Project' Launched in Hsinchu: First Stop Was Guanxi

A comprehensive educational initiative has been launched in Taiwan's Hsinchu County, aiming to encourage individuals to adopt a culture of lifelong learning and actively participate in the knowledge society. With financial support from the Department of Continuing Education of the Ministry of Education, the Hsinchu County government has officially launched the three-year 'Learning City Project'. This ambitious initiative aims not only to bring together official institutions but also industries, academia, and research organizations to create a shared vision. The promotion and official launch ceremony of the project were held under the leadership of Hsinchu County Secretary-General Li An-yu. In his speech, Secretary-General Li An-yu added that the local government will mobilize all available resources to expand lifelong learning opportunities. In the first year of this three-year long-term strategic plan, the town of Guanxi was selected as a special pilot area for implementation and trials. The primary reasons for Guanxi, known for its historical and cultural texture, to assume this role are the local people's strong culture of solidarity and the region's unique rural heritage. The activities to be carried out in Guanxi in the initial phase will include workshops, skills development courses, and community-based learning events tailored to the needs of the residents. Thanks to the integration of local dynamics and cultural values into education, the success models emerging here are expected to guide other parts of the county in the coming years. While ensuring the active participation of the townspeople in education, this pilot application also plans to bring an innovative perspective to regional development.

This implemented project plans to bring various social and pedagogical innovations to make the learning culture an established habit in the region. Considering the developing technology and the changing labor market, individuals' continuous self-renewal has become one of the most fundamental requirements of the modern world.
