Within the scope of the digital transformation project initiated for the sustainability of marine ecosystems, İzmir İl Tarım ve Orman Müdürlüğü has added advanced technology equipment to its inventory. With the project supported by İzmir Kalkınma Ajansı and Su Ürünleri Kooperatifleri Bölge Birliği, 4 aerial drones, thermal cameras with night vision capabilities, and underwater cameras have been put into service.
Applied training was provided to the technical personnel regarding the use of the newly acquired technological devices. Immediately following these trainings, during the first drone-assisted inspection, an illegal fishing activity was detected, and administrative and legal processes were initiated against the individuals involved.
Authorities stated that the integration of digital technologies into inspections will facilitate the control of hard-to-reach areas in particular. Thanks to the new equipment, it is aimed to combat illegal fishing in the seas in a much more effective, fast, and comprehensive manner.
