WhatsApp Operation from the Gendarmerie: Access Block on Groups with Thousands of Members

Gendarmerie teams, continuing security and public order efforts across Türkiye, have launched a new operation against illegal activities conducted over digital communication networks. In this context, massive groups established on the popular instant messaging application WhatsApp were targeted, particularly in line with recent increasing complaints and intelligence data. It was determined that posts constituting various crimes were made on these digital platforms, which have a total of 1276 members. To prevent victimization of users and eliminate criminal elements, gendarmerie teams immediately initiated technical tracking and digital intervention processes. As a result of meticulous investigations, access to the content of these groups was completely blocked, and their activities were halted.

With the increasing prevalence of digital communication, it is observed that illegal organizations and organized crime syndicates actively use the virtual world. This latest operation conducted by the gendarmerie has once again demonstrated how determined and equipped the security forces are in the fight against cybercrime. It was reported that efforts are continuously ongoing to identify the 1276 individuals in the relevant groups and to take their statements.
