Yugoslav Names in the Streets of Kalkandelen to Be Replaced with the Names of Macedonian Historical Figures

The working group established in the Kalkandelen (Tetovo) municipality of North Macedonia has determined 74 new names to replace the Yugoslav-era names on the city's streets and avenues. Among the new names are significant historical and cultural figures of the Balkans, such as İskender Bey, Ana Teresa, and Montenegrin writers Kadare and Migjeni. Additionally, the names of local personalities who have left their mark on the cultural, educational, and sports life of Kalkandelen will be given to new streets.

Working Group Chairman Albi Çamili announced that the street names of Yugoslav origin in the areas where Macedonian citizens live in the city will be replaced with the names of Macedonian history and culture figures, such as Kırste Petkov Misirkov. This step comes after the Constitutional Court annulled the municipality's previous street name change decision made in 2007 approximately a month ago. It was noteworthy that during the discussion of the issue in the municipal council, some council members showed reaction and left the session.
