The Kolombiya Ulusal Sağlık Denetmenliği (Supersalud) highlighted the severe obstacles faced by women diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) within the country's health system. It was stated that patients experience great difficulty in accessing timely medical consultations, specialist doctors, and necessary treatments. This situation reveals permanent flaws in the diagnosis, follow-up, and management processes of the condition. Officials emphasized that the system falls short even in the most basic healthcare services, announcing the situation to the public as a warning. These chronic issues in women's access to fundamental health rights bring to the agenda the administrative and structural reforms that must be implemented next.

According to detailed data released by the oversight body, 809 formal complaints were filed by women suffering from this condition between Aralık 2025 and Mayıs 2026. This significant figure is considered a clear indicator not only of patient complaints but also of a system-wide collapse. The opening of 159 new complaint files solely within the month of Mayıs 2026 proves that the problem is becoming a growing trend. Following the review of all these applications, it was determined that the core problem stems from massive barriers to accessing specialized medical care. These statistics clearly demonstrate that the relevant institutions are far from resolving current issues and that victimization is steadily increasing.

A detailed review of the complaints also reveals the specific categories where the obstacles faced by patients are most concentrated. Denials in appointment allocation top the list as the most frequently encountered issue, with 194 cases. This is followed by 172 complaints regarding delays in securing specialist doctor consultations and 108 reports concerning inequality or delays in other healthcare services. Furthermore, more than 90 official applications were recorded regarding the failure to provide health technologies despite prior approval, as well as disruptions in additional services. This data shows that bureaucratic processes and resource shortages directly diminish the quality of life for patients.

The specialties of Endocrinology and Obstetrics and Gynecology, which are of critical importance for the diagnosis and comprehensive treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome, unfortunately, stand out as the departments experiencing the most significant problems. It was noted that a total of 292 complaints were recorded in just these two main specialty fields. Of these applications, 140 pertain directly to the rejection of appointment requests, 125 to excessive delays in treatment processes, and 27 to delayed approval of consultations. This intense congestion and inefficiency within the specialty departments cause a treatable condition to turn into a source of chronic stress for patients. The severity of the situation confirms that health management must develop urgent action plans to appoint specialists and expedite processes.

Another striking detail revealed by the report is that the demographic most affected by this negative situation is young women. Constituting a large portion of the total applications, 405 complaints came from young patients aged 14 to 28, while 395 complaints were received from women aged 29 to 59. From a geographical perspective, the complaints are seen to be concentrated in Kolombiya's major cities. The capital Bogota, along with the Antioquia and Valle del Cauca regions, stand out as the areas where patients with polycystic ovary syndrome experience the greatest difficulty in accessing healthcare services. Authorized institutions are obligated to urgently take the necessary steps, taking these regional differences into account, to ensure that all women receive fair and timely healthcare services.
