Former Minister's Response to Magyar Péter's 'Amnesia' with Advanced Agriculture Sector

In the political agenda of Hungary, the claims recently made by Magyar Péter, who serves as a speaker for the opposition party Momentum, have created controversy. In his statements or criticisms regarding the agenda, Magyar Péter drew attention to himself by creating an air of forgetfulness about certain periods or events, or acting as if these events never happened. While this stance was criticized by the ruling party Fidesz and its supporters, Magyar Péter's assumption was that there has been no development in the economic and sectoral fields in the country in recent years.

One of the harshest reactions to Magyar Péter's 'nothing has happened' rhetoric came from former Minister of Agriculture and prominent Fidesz figure Nagy István. Nagy István, through his social media account or statements, made a counter-attack equipped with concrete data and observations to refute Magyar's claims. Arguing that the opposition politician 'had forgotten the facts' or was ignoring them, the former minister felt the need to remind the reality of the Hungarian agriculture and food industry.

Nagy István's criticisms were not just a political spat, but an effort to list the concrete successes of the sector. The answer to Magyar Péter's question 'If nothing really happened' was the fact that thousands of agricultural enterprises (gazdaság) have been renewed and developed. By presenting the transformation and modernization these thousands of enterprises operating in the agricultural sector have undergone in recent years as evidence, Nagy aimed to fundamentally demolish the opposition's stance of denial.

Not only existing businesses but also newly established plants, that is, newly established facilities, occupied a central place in the former minister's arguments. The construction and commissioning of new production plants serving the food industry in Hungary were considered among the most concrete evidence showing the vibrancy of the sector and the existence of an investment environment. Nagy István emphasized that these new plants made the 'nothing has happened' discourse completely meaningless in terms of economic and commercial data.

Finally, the general development process of the food industry (élelmiszeripar) and the transition to value-added product production was one of the main pillars of the debate. The former minister stated that the sector not only grew but also developed technologically and increased its competitiveness, thus strengthening Hungary's position as a regional player. These points were used to strengthen the narrative that the government's agriculture and economic policies are bearing fruit, against Magyar Péter's perceived 'forgetfulness'.
