Turkey Statistical Institute (TÜİK) shared the inflation and price change data for June with the public. The announcement revealed dramatic price fluctuations, especially in essential consumer items such as food and transportation. These figures, which directly affect the daily lives of citizens, were felt across a wide range, from market stalls to supermarket shelves. Accordingly, record increases exceeding 50 percent were recorded in some fresh food products, while some other products experienced significant declines. This situation once again demonstrated the concrete effects of seasonal fluctuations and supply-demand balances on the economy.

The product category with the highest price increase in June was 'other fresh fruits,' with a massive jump of 54.26 percent. This extraordinary increase was followed by tuberous vegetables at 44.55 percent and other fresh or chilled vegetables at 17.35 percent. These rises were evaluated as a clear indicator of how supply shortages or seasonal conditions in fresh produce items are reflected in the consumer. Additionally, a 12.85 percent price increase was observed in fresh citrus fruits. On the processed food side, canned or processed fish products became 8.05 percent more expensive, and other food products not elsewhere classified became 6.9 percent more expensive. With the arrival of the summer months, a 6.27 percent price increase was also recorded in products such as ice, ice cream, and water ice (sorbet), where demand increased.

On the other hand, significant price drops that relieved consumers and somewhat eased their budgets were also experienced in June. The most striking decline occurred in the group of fruit-bearing fresh or chilled vegetables, with 37.64 percent. This group was followed by green leafy or stalked fresh vegetables, with a noteworthy cheapening of 24.8 percent. These declines stood out as positive pictures directly associated with the increase in local production and the expansion of supply, especially during the summer months. Citizens shopping at the markets breathed a little easier compared to previous months thanks to the price regressions in these categories.

Other declines in the fruit and vegetable market were also quite remarkable. For instance, a regression of 14.21 percent was observed in fresh or chilled green legume vegetables. While the prices of fresh berry fruits decreased by 10.55 percent, the prices of fresh dates, figs, and tropical fruits also experienced a cheapening of 9.54 percent. This situation reflected the market dynamics where the prices of abundantly available in-season products are naturally pulled down. The fact that food inflation fluctuated to this degree continued to be one of the most important factors shaping families' nutritional habits and expenditures. The harvest season's contribution to product diversity in the agricultural sector has been reflected on supermarket shelf prices with these rates.

Outside the food sector, some price changes closely concerning consumers also occurred in the transportation sector. Last month, air passenger transport fares abroad decreased by 8.96 percent, becoming advantageous for vacationers. A regression of 6.29 percent was recorded in other fuels used for personal transportation vehicles. In addition, diesel fuel prices, which are a critical cost item for many sectors, also became cheaper by 4.4 percent. These developments were interpreted as reflections of movements in energy markets and changes in logistics costs. For drivers and carriers, these declines seem to bring relief on transportation costs in the near term.
