20-Year-Old Youth Shot by Police in Greece Loses His Life

In a tragic incident that occurred in the city of Argos, Greece, a 20-year-old youth who was severely injured by police gunfire lost his life after losing his battle for survival in the hospital. The youth was severely injured as a result of gunfire opened during a chase with the police. This tragic incident has initiated a new debate in the country regarding police brutality and the use of authority. A comprehensive investigation is being conducted by the authorities regarding the matter.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning on Wednesday, July 8, at approximately 02:30. The chase that began between the police teams and the suspect resulted in the youth being shot. The severely injured youth was immediately transported to Argo Hospital (Noso-komeio Argous) for initial treatment. Considering how critical time is for such emergencies, health teams acted swiftly. However, as the youth's life-threatening condition persisted, a more advanced treatment was needed.

As his condition worsened, the youth was transferred to the Emergency Service (TEP) unit of Triasio Hospital (Thriassio Nosokomeio), and subsequently to the Intensive Care Unit (MEΘ) of KAT Hospital due to the need for intensive care. Upon arriving at the hospital, the youth, who was intubated, was found to have suffered a severe head trauma (craniocerebral). It was stated that this extremely severe head trauma was caused directly by the bullet wound. It was announced that the admitted youth's condition was extremely critical.

In order to treat the severe injury in the youth's head, it was decided to perform an emergency and critical neurosurgery (brain surgery) operation. The surgical intervention was carried out immediately accompanied by specialist doctors, and medical capabilities were pushed to the limit for the youth's survival. However, despite all intensive and extensive interventions, the youth could not recover, and all interventions by the doctors proved unsuccessful due to the severe injuries he sustained. The youth lost his life, unable to withstand the effects of the severe wounds he sustained.

Meanwhile, a judicial process was also initiated against two police officers involved in the incident and accused of shooting the youth. The two police officers appeared before the magistrate judge (anakrítis) in the city of Nafplio (Nafplion) this morning to give their statements to the prosecutor. Following the statement procedures that lasted for hours, the investigating magistrate judge and prosecutor unanimously decided to order the arrest of the two officers. With this decision, both police officers were arrested and temporarily sent to prison, and their judicial processes will continue.
