Latin America has over 300 active volcanoes, but warning systems are inadequate

A new study prepared by 11 scientists draws attention to the volcanic hazard in the Latin America region and current protection deficiencies.

The region hosts about 22 percent of the world's volcanoes and one in every five volcanic eruptions. However, early warning systems that would protect millions of people from danger are not sufficient.
