EU's Strong Reaction to Terrorist Attack in Damascus and Call for Joint Struggle

The European Union (EU) issued a message of condemnation in the strongest terms against the savage terrorist attack targeting civilians in Damascus, the capital of Syria. In the official statement, it was noted that this heinous act, carried out particularly near the Palace of Justice in the city center, once again revealed how grave the consequences of deliberately targeting innocent people are. It was emphasized that the attack constituted a clear threat to the sense of justice and security, not only due to the loss of life but also because it was committed near a structure that symbolizes the rule of law.

In the initial assessments regarding the consequences of the explosion, it was shared that great devastation occurred at and around the scene of the incident, and regrettably, many civilians lost their lives or were injured. According to official data regarding the incident, nine innocent people, including women and children, lost their lives in this treacherous attack, while about twenty people were injured to varying degrees and were taken to hospitals. It was stated that the health conditions of the injured were being closely monitored, and the physical and psychological trauma caused by the attack further deepened security concerns in the region.

The EU reiterated its stance that the perpetrators, planners, and supporters behind this tragic event must be held accountable under international law, calling for all necessary steps to be taken for justice to be served. In the statement, the determination was underscored that no form of terrorism can be justified under any pretext or purpose, and that defending such inhumane acts with political motives can never be accepted. Attention was drawn to the need for the international community to exhibit a determined stance against the influence of instigators and ideological inciters.

Member countries of the Union announced their agreement to act in cooperation with their allies and international partners to further consolidate their determination in the fight against terrorism. Based on the fact that such threats threaten not just a single country but global peace and security, it was stated that a joint strategy would be followed regarding preventive measures and increased intelligence sharing. It was conveyed that a global front against terrorism needs to be formed with a common language and style; otherwise, preventing such attacks would become much more difficult.

Finally, the EU pledged to continue standing by the people of Syria in difficult times and to increase its diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to end the cycle of violence. Beyond characterizing the attack in Damascus as an act of condemnation, a call was made for concrete steps to be taken on the basis of respect for Syria's territorial integrity and the security of its people to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents. It was noted that the fight against the roots of terrorism can only succeed in an environment where stability and the rule of law are ensured, and urgent action is required to prevent the innocent civilian population from suffering further.
