Operation against new generation crime organizations in Ankara: 55 suspects detained

As part of the extensive investigation targeting structures defined as 'new generation crime organizations' and centered in Ankara, a significant step was taken in accordance with decisions by judicial authorities. Coordinated by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, operations aimed at dismantling the hierarchical structure and financial resources of crime syndicates continue without slowing down. Within this scope, a large number of suspects, detained upon sufficient suspicion, were referred to judicial authorities after the completion of procedures in police units. While detention orders were issued for some suspects based on the state of evidence and their roles within the organization, legal procedures regarding the process were carried out completely.

According to official statements regarding the issue, the target of the operation constitutes new generation crime organizations possessing a hierarchical structure. The investigation, which also examines the modern methods and technological infrastructure used by the organizations while committing crimes, involved an operation against a wide network of personnel ranging from the upper management to the lower ranks of the organization. As the investigation deepened, new connections and financial data regarding the organization's activities across the country were obtained, and concrete evidence regarding the network was reached. It was stated that these organizations, termed 'new generation', possess a more complex and systematic functioning compared to classical organized crime structures, and thus the fight against them has been revised accordingly. Security forces created the strategic plan for the operation by deciphering the communication networks of the organization.

Looking at the operation details, teams acting on the instructions of the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office succeeded in catching the suspects red-handed by raiding determined addresses simultaneously. The 90 detainees were evaluated for detention by the on-duty Magistrate Judges after their questioning and statement procedures at the police station. As a result of the trial by the Court, the degree of participation in the organization's activities, the scope of the crimes, and the state of evidence were meticulously examined. As a result of these examinations, a 'detention' decision was issued for 55 suspects found to have heavier roles in the organization and higher rates of involvement in crimes.

Legal processes regarding the status of the other suspects brought to court evolved into different dimensions. For some of the suspects other than those detained, judicial control provisions were applied considering insufficient evidence or their social status. Some unnamed suspects were released with measures such as a travel ban, on the condition of waiting for the trial date. It was ensured that the suspects detained within the scope of the investigation were sent to prison and held under strong security measures, while legal processes continue. Thus, while the vast majority of those detained in the operation were sent to prison, it was decided to continue the trial with judicial control measures for the remaining ones.

This operation went down in history as one of the most concrete examples of the fight against organized crime organizations that have been increasing in the country in recent years and operating using modern technological opportunities. It was emphasized that the term 'new generation crime organizations' was preferred because such organized crime structures have more complex structures and use technical opportunities than traditional methods. Authorities stated that investigations initiated in Ankara to decipher and dismantle such structures could be applied in other provinces in the future, declaring that the principle of the rule of law will not be compromised. Security units made statements that all kinds of activities of such organized structures would be prevented for the peace and security of the society, that the operation would not be limited to Ankara, and that geographical expansion would be made if necessary.
