No injuries in crash where light commercial vehicle fell into irrigation canal in Antalya

In a traffic accident that occurred in Odaönü Mahallesi'nde, affiliated with Antalya's Manavgat ilçesi, a light commercial vehicle fell into an irrigation canal by the roadside. According to information obtained, the vehicle with license plate 34 PNY 265, driven by Ali Ö, went out of control and overturned into the canal in the Yukarı Oba locality. As a result of the accident, fortunately, there were no fatalities or injuries. Teams arriving at the scene started work to remove the vehicle from the canal. Local residents expressed concern that similar accidents are increasing.

Süleyman Atik, the Muhtar of Odaönü Mahallesi, stated that the narrow bridge in the area invites accidents. Atik requested urgent solutions from the authorities, noting that similar accidents have happened in the past and vehicles frequently fall into the irrigation canal. The Muhtar emphasized that the bridge needs to be reorganized and safety measures must be taken on the road. He warned that otherwise, similar accidents could recur. The locals also supported the Muhtar's call, drawing attention to the dangerous structure of the area.

Manavgat ilçesi is known as one of Antalya's important tourist and agricultural regions, and there is a dense network of irrigation canals in the area. While these canals are widely used for agricultural irrigation, their location close to the roadsides poses a risk for drivers. The probability of such accidents occurring increases, especially at night or in weather conditions where visibility is reduced. It was learned that the driver involved in the accident, Ali Ö, had his statement taken. Gendarmerie teams arriving at the accident scene took measures to ensure traffic safety. It was reported that traffic returned to normal in the area after the vehicle was removed from the canal. While the prosecutor's investigation into the matter continues, it is aimed to determine the detailed causes of the accident based on the driver's statement. During this process, the vehicle's technical inspection and the driver's license status will also be evaluated within the scope of the investigation.

The local community emphasizes that such constantly recurring accidents in the area have reached an unacceptable point. Citizens expressed that they expect the authorities to make urgent arrangements at narrow bridges and dangerous road sections. Muhtar Süleyman Atik announced that he will follow up on this issue and make new applications to the necessary authorities. Local residents insist that measures must be taken to prevent any loss of life in the next accident. The incident once again brought to the agenda the need for local governments to review infrastructure and traffic safety standards in rural areas. To prevent similar accidents, it is recommended to take measures such as warning signs and guardrails in addition to physical arrangements.
