Azerbaijan and Baykar Discussed Deepening Defense Industry Cooperation

Azerbaijan's Minister of Defense Industry Vugar Mustafayev met with Selçuk Bayraktar, the Chairman of the Board of Baykar, one of Türkiye's leading defense companies. Türkiye's Ambassador to Baku, Birol Akgün, also attended the meeting, which was held as part of Bayraktar's working visit to the country. According to a statement from the Azerbaijan Ministry of Defense Industry, it was emphasized that the strategic alliance relations between the two sides continue to develop successfully in the defense industry sector, as in all other areas. This high-level meeting was considered an important step in shaping the future direction of military and technological cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

During the meeting, it was stated that further expanding the existing cooperation with Baykar is of special importance for the development of Azerbaijan's defense industry. The positive impacts of Bayraktar UAVs, which have entered the inventory of the Azerbaijani army in recent years, on regional security and military capacity were highlighted as a concrete indicator of this cooperation. Ministry officials stated that the joint projects implemented between the two countries have made significant contributions to strengthening the existing partnership. It was learned that the joint production of local and national technologies and knowledge sharing were put on the table as a strategic element directly affecting regional balances.

Additionally, views were exchanged during the meeting on expanding military-technical cooperation and implementing innovative technologies. The two sides agreed on setting common goals for the development of unmanned aerial vehicle systems and other modern defense vehicles in light of the data obtained from combat experiences. Within the scope of the evaluations made, it was reported that other topics of mutual interest were also discussed and a roadmap for future projects was established. This innovation-oriented approach is expected to offer a model that will reinforce the defense industry independence of both countries.

The rapprochement between Azerbaijan and Türkiye in the field of the defense industry plays a critical role in the reconstruction of the regional security architecture.
