The legendary 'Backyard Baseball' game, which left its mark on the childhoods of many and is remembered for its unforgettable characters like Pablo Sanchez or Keisha Phillips, is resurfacing after a long hiatus. The popular game from the Backyard Sports series has officially met with players on the Steam platform, along with the first original version released in a decade. This exciting return, confirmed by Playground Productions CEO Lindsay Barnett, targets the game's loyal fanbase as well as new generations. Barnett notes that re-releasing this classic game is a highly logical and inevitable decision. The fact that the generation who played this game as children has now grown up and had children of their own has created a perfect environment for the revival of the series.

Originally released on CD-ROM by Humongous Entertainment in 1997, the original game allowed players to build their own baseball teams from 30 neighborhood kids with diverse backgrounds and skill levels. The original production allowed players to compete against the computer with various game options such as Single Game, Batting Practice, Spectator, and Season Mode. Newly developed versions over time further increased the series' popularity by adding kid versions of professional baseball players to the game. However, this newest and most current version of the series holds the distinction of being the first original Backyard Baseball game released since 'Backyard Sports: Baseball 2015'. Barnett emphasizes that the game was the most beloved part of her own childhood and that it offers an inclusive representation that appeals to everyone with its equally talented roster of 15 boys and 15 girls.

This new version, which preserves the beloved characters of the original game exactly as they were, comes with brand new and fun features alongside the classic game modes players know well. Innovations such as Backyard Derby (the game's own home run derby version), Backyard Bash (a refreshed take on batting practice), and Wiggle Ball, a four-player wiffle ball mode, significantly enrich the gaming experience. Additionally, new modes where the game's difficulty level can be adjusted have been added, aiming to cater to players of different ages and skill levels. Barnett highlights the social gaming experience by announcing that the game will support both local (couch co-op) and online multiplayer modes simultaneously. Furthermore, the absence of any microtransactions for in-game spending tokens or items stands out as a highly notable detail in today's gaming industry.

Barnett, who stated they want to avoid the constant update and annual release pressure frequently seen in today's gaming industry, notes that there is no year or number attached to 'Backyard Baseball'. This situation clearly shows that the company positions the game as a long-term entertainment tool and has no intention of forcing players to buy a new game every year. The team, stating that they will offer new characters and in-game collectible cards through downloadable content, aims to allow players to enjoy the game without having to make additional expenses after the initial purchase. According to Barnett's statements, building a fair and long-lasting gaming ecosystem where players are valued and not exploited from start to finish is among their core priorities.

To celebrate this major launch, Backyard Sports is teaming up with e-commerce giant Shopify to organize an unforgettable event in the Soho district of New York. The pop-up event space, which will open at Shopify's store at 131 Greene St. between July 17-19, will be transformed into the iconic treehouse from the games. Visitors will be able to access event-exclusive products, take advantage of photo opportunities, play the game, and watch famous streamers play the new game live. Barnett adds that the venue will feature physical activities to test real-life baseball skills, an arcade game area, and collectible items sold only there. The game, which can be downloaded via Steam for $39.99, is planned to come to Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles in the future.
