Natural Gas Explosion in Çorlu: 2 Dead, 5 Injured

A massive natural gas explosion occurred in the evening in Hıdırağa Mahallesi Borsa Meydanı in the Çorlu district of Tekirdağ. The incident took place on the top floor, namely the 6th floor, of a 6-story apartment building served by GAZDAŞ Trakya's natural gas service. The severity of the explosion caused the building to suffer major damage, creating an atmosphere of fear and panic in the surrounding area. Following the report, numerous health, fire, and police teams were dispatched to the scene to intervene.

The teams arriving at the scene raised security measures to the highest level while simultaneously beginning to administer first aid to the injured at the site. It was observed that the structural damage in the apartment was quite extensive due to the impact of the explosion, and serious damage occurred on the exterior facade of the building. While 5 people who survived the disaster with injuries were taken to surrounding hospitals by ambulances for treatment, it was determined that, unfortunately, 2 people lost their lives at the scene.

Detailed investigations have been initiated by police, fire department, and relevant institution teams to determine the exact cause of the explosion. Although initial assessments focus on the possibility that the explosion was caused by natural gas, the situation will become clear once technical investigations are completed. Following the incident, where local residents experienced a major shock, a security cordon was established in the area to keep citizens away.

Tekirdağ Governorship and Çorlu District Governorship officials announced that they are closely monitoring developments regarding the incident and that all necessary support is being provided. Work has begun to temporarily relocate building residents and conduct damage assessment studies. GAZDAŞ Trakya officials stated that they temporarily cut off the gas flow in the region for security reasons and that a return to normal will be made after the inspection is completed.

The importance of regular maintenance and inspections has come to the fore once again to prevent such natural gas explosions. Experts emphasize that natural gas installations, especially in old buildings, should be checked periodically and emergency lines should be called if a gas smell is detected. While this tragic incident in Çorlu once again highlights the vital importance of safety measures and conscious usage, statements made by hospital sources regarding the health status of the injured indicated that their general condition is stable.
