Dubai launches 'Skills for Life' framework to prepare students for the future

Dubai has launched an integrated 'Skills for Life' framework to enhance practical, personal, and social capacities to prepare children and youth for a rapidly changing world. According to a statement by Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), this initiative, implemented under the directives of Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktum, aims to enable students to step into school, work, and daily life with self-confidence. The framework will cover all learning stages from pre-pre-school to post-graduation, effective from the 2026-27 academic year, and will be carried out in alignment with the Dubai Education Strategy 2033 and the UAE's National Education Charter. While the framework ensures healthy lifestyles, personal hygiene, physical activity, and balanced habits contribute to students' general well-being; it also aims to foster understanding of balanced diets and behaviors supporting long-term health by focusing on nutrition and healthy eating. Additionally, skills for managing daily life with independence and responsibility—such as organization, goal setting, time management, and decision-making—along with effective use of resources through financial and consumer awareness, will be imparted to students. In terms of social practices and relationship building, support will be provided on effective communication, empathy, collaboration, and developing positive relationships with others to enhance the quality of students' social interactions.
In the digital realm, the framework aims to foster online critical thinking and digital responsibility awareness by teaching the safe, responsible, and effective use of technology and digital tools. Within this scope, encouraging sustainable behaviors and supporting Dubai's long-term future are among the key targeted outcomes. To strengthen psychological resilience and self-confidence, students will be supported in possessing competencies such as adaptability, self-regulation, and constructive responses to challenges. These themes will be embedded into learning environments and curricula to form a whole that complements Dubai's quality assurance standards and academic and career guidance policies.
The initiative envisages strengthening partnerships between schools, teachers, parents, the business world, and the wider community, and creating an ecosystem to help students choose paths suited to their goals, talents, and emerging labor market opportunities.
