Fethiye'de Illegal Gambling Operation: 5 Suspects Arrested

It was announced that a comprehensive police operation was carried out against those operating illegal betting and games of chance in Fethiye district of Muğla. A total of 6 suspects were detained in simultaneous raids conducted as a result of long-term surveillance and intelligence work by law enforcement. It was reported that the operation dealt a major blow to illegal betting networks in the region and was an important step towards drying up the financial resources of criminal organizations. It is claimed that the detained suspects made unfair profits by playing illegal bets on users through various digital platforms. Authorities emphasized that such crimes cause economic loss and moral collapse, stressing that the operations will continue.

It was learned that the teams involved in the operation consisted of experts from the Intelligence Branch Directorate and the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) Branch Directorate, affiliated with the Muğla Provincial Police Department. The coordinated work of these two different units was essential to decipher the highly complex and covert networks of illegal betting gangs. The intelligence unit determined the identities and modus operandi of the suspects through months of technical surveillance and physical tracking methods. The KOM Branch teams personally conducted the field phase of the operation, which resulted in the capture of the criminals, in the light of the collected evidence. It was stated that the teams followed a highly surprising and synchronized strategy to prevent the suspects from destroying digital evidence.

All 6 detained suspects were taken to the police station for processing at the police center to be referred to the courthouse after their interrogations were completed. In the interrogations at the police station, statements were obtained that the suspects acted as intermediaries for illegal betting sites and made high-amount money transfers. After hours of questioning, the suspects were handed over to judicial authorities to answer the charges against them and present their defenses. Following the statements given at the prosecutor's interrogation, an application was made to the court with a request for the arrest of the suspects who appeared before the judge. The court decided to arrest 5 of the 6 individuals, citing the abundance of evidence in the file and the fact that the incident constituted an organized crime.

After the 5 arrested suspects were sent to prison, the investigation continues to deepen, and it is being investigated whether there are still fugitives among them. It was learned that 1 released suspect was released under judicial control and subjected to measures such as a ban on leaving the country. Authorities stated that despite the severity of the penalties for illegal betting crimes, people do not refrain from committing this crime, therefore the presence of preventive law enforcement is critical. It was claimed that the detained suspects had previous records of similar crimes and that their capital was confiscated with this operation. It is planned that the trial process will be conducted meticulously and confidentially, taking into account the scope of economic crimes.
