FIFA is investigating the attacks by Argentine players in the 2026 World Cup final

Following the 2026 World Cup final, the physical assaults committed by Argentine players during the match, which resulted in Spain declaring the championship, were brought to FIFA's attention. After Spain's final victory in North America, footage of the attack by Boca Juniors midfielder Leandro Paredes targeting Spanish players reached FIFA's headquarters in Switzerland.

FIFA has launched a disciplinary investigation covering the aggressive attitude displayed by the Argentine national team. Within the scope of the investigation, not only Paredes but also Nahuel Molina, who punched Rodri during the award ceremony, and assistant coach Roberto Ayala's attack on Dani Olmo are being evaluated. According to Sky Sports, the committee will decide whether to impose sanctions after reviewing the referee reports and match footage.

Additionally, FIFA will evaluate the controversy regarding Argentine players turning their backs while Spain lifted the trophy during the cup ceremony. The organization has not yet announced potential sanctions. FIFA, which will wait for the disciplinary process to be completed to make an official decision, is expected to announce its decision weeks later.
