Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacts strongly to Russia's attack on Kiev: 'Ukrainians must know they are not alone'

The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia (MVEP) announced that it strongly condemns the recent Russian missile attack targeting the Ukrainian capital Kiev and a densely populated civilian area. The statement noted that the consequences of the attack were catastrophic, emphasizing that all acts of violence resulting in the death or injury of civilians are vehemently condemned, as such actions are unacceptable under the laws of war. The Ministry argued that respect for Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty is reaffirmed, that the attacks constitute a clear violation of international law, and that those responsible must be held accountable. It was called upon the international community to act to stop such attacks, which harm the environment of peace and stability and are met with concern worldwide.

In the official statement regarding the issue, messages of solidarity to the people of Ukraine were highlighted, and it was stated that it is of great importance for Ukrainians to know that they are never alone in this difficult war process. It was recorded that Croatia and its allies will continue their support decisively for Ukraine to regain its most fundamental rights such as peace, freedom, and security, and that this support will continue not only in words but also through concrete actions. It was underscored that Ukraine has the right to live in peace on its own territories and to determine its future, and it was stated that they will stand tall against attacks aimed at usurping these rights. Additionally, a message was given that all necessary political and material aid will be provided so that Ukraine can continue to exercise its right to legitimate self-defense, and that they stand by the Kiev administration.

Although the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not provide technical information regarding the details of the attack, it argued that this attack on a city of strategic and historical importance like Kiev was not just a military target, but also had the nature of a terrorist act aimed at deliberately intimidating civilian infrastructure and the population. In the face of these developments, which deepen the humanitarian crisis caused by the war, the view was highlighted that the international community needs to discuss harsher sanctions and more humanitarian aid. Although calls were made for the war to end as soon as possible and a just solution to be found through diplomacy, it was emphasized that support for Ukraine would not be cut as long as the attacks continue.

Ministry officials stated that the news and images from the scene revealed an inhumane picture and that the aggression must stop immediately to prevent such tragedies. It was expressed that Ukraine remains standing not only with military power but also with the support, solidarity, and moral strength coming from all over the world, and in this context, the Croatian people are in full solidarity with Ukraine. In the assessments, it was noted that the Russian Federation's aim to break the will of the Ukrainian people and target its existence as an independent state with these attacks is doomed to fail, and that the struggle Ukraine is waging for democratic values and freedoms is becoming legendary. The MVEP declared that it will continue its support in line with the Berlin Charter and other international agreements, with the main goal of restoring Ukraine's borders and retaking every inch of its territory.
