Heatwave ending in Spain: Here are the weather forecasts

Spain is experiencing the final stages of the second severe heatwave of the summer season, and the extreme temperatures affecting the whole country are finally reported to be starting to ease. This scorching weather, which has been effective since the past few days, caused thermometers to rise above 40 degrees in many parts of the country. Not only during the day but also the fact that night temperatures did not drop below 30 degrees created a suffocating environment for the public. This situation is almost an exact repeat of the first heatwave, which coincided with the beginning of the official summer season and occurred at the end of June. The Spain State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) called on citizens to be careful with various warnings against the continuation of high temperatures throughout the week.

Roberto Brasero, a well-known meteorologist from Antena 3, made a promising statement regarding the date when the heatwave will end. Starting from Wednesday, a significant drop in temperatures began on the Valencia coasts; although the weather is hot there, it was observed that the red alarm was lifted. However, in the rest of the country, air temperatures are still running quite high. Especially the southwest regions continue to experience the effect of extreme heat with measurements around 40-42 degrees, the southern regions 38-40 degrees, and the Ebro Valley 39-41 degrees. Brasero stated that this heatwave will officially end with the entry of a weather mass coming from the west on Thursday.

According to the meteorologist's statements, Thursday, July 9, will be the last day when extreme heat conditions will be experienced. Even though temperatures will remain high in the northeast and southeast regions, the heatwave conditions will end with the change of the air mass. When Friday arrives, thermometers will show a significant drop in the inner regions of the Spain peninsula. However, this cooling will come at a price; because severe and widespread thunderstorms are expected to break out across the country on Thursday and Friday. This situation creates a new risk factor for flash floods and other weather-related adversities.

Regarding the issue, Rubén Campos, the spokesperson for the Spain State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), also confirmed the claims regarding the end of the heatwave. Campos, who made a press statement, stated that starting from Friday, the temperature drops will become dominant and this officially means the end of the heatwave. According to this statement announced via Europa Press, air temperatures will return to seasonal norms. Even though the weather will still be hot in the country, those threatening and extreme temperature values that have kept people confined to their homes since the beginning of June will be left behind.

In general, Spain is forced to be prepared over and over again to cope with such extreme weather events that it frequently encounters during the summer months. In this period when the effects of climate change are increasing, successive heatwaves negatively affect both human health and agriculture. Authorities continue their warnings for the consumption of plenty of water and avoiding going out at noon, especially for the elderly, children, and those with chronic conditions. The fact that meteorological data point to a more stable weather condition seems to allow the Spanish people to breathe a sigh of relief. It is also strongly emphasized by experts to be careful against the dangers that storms may create in the coming days.
