45 suspects detained in Istanbul-centered operation, no tolerance for drug smuggling

A large-scale drug operation centered in Istanbul and covering three provinces has come to an end. As a result of simultaneous raids, a total of 54 suspects were detained and a detailed investigation process was initiated. After the completion of the suspects' procedures in detention, their detention requests were evaluated by the judicial authorities to which they were referred. Following the examinations by the judgeship, a decision for detention was issued regarding 45 people, the majority of the suspects.
Within the scope of the operation, the 45 detained suspects were found guilty of trading or providing drugs and were sent to prison. The courts decided to continue their detention on the grounds that there was strong suspicion of crime against these persons and that judicial control measures would be insufficient. This decision indicates that the operation achieved its targeted success and dealt a heavy blow to organized crime organizations. It is expected that the detained defendants will provide detailed information about the basement backup plans and financial resources of the drug network.
The other 9 suspects detained, however, were released with a different outcome from the hearings. These individuals, released under the condition of judicial control, were subjected to certain restrictions such as a ban on traveling abroad and were obliged to appear before a judge. The court concluded that there was no situation requiring detention for these suspects, considering the nature of the crime, the status of evidence, and the prosecutor's opinion. Those released are required to comply with obligations such as reporting their addresses and signing in during the trial process.
This simultaneous operation points to how determined and large-scale the fight against drug dealers in Istanbul is. Thanks to the intelligence work and coordinated movements of the security forces, many suspects were caught and delivered to justice. It is stated that the operation is a great success not only with the number of suspects caught but also with the deterrent effect it creates in preventing drug trade. Officials emphasize that such operations will continue uninterruptedly and that the fight against drugs will be kept at the highest level for the peace of the public.
With the completion of the legal process and the evidence being converted into an indictment to be prepared by the prosecutor's office, a concrete lawsuit is expected to be opened against the 45 detained suspects. In addition, the investigation will continue in depth by applying measures such as a ban on traveling abroad for the 9 released suspects. This event reveals that the principle of the rule of law is adhered to in the fight against drugs and that criminals are held accountable. The public is closely following the results of the operation and possible new developments.
