Weight loss of disabled woman placed under municipal care in Sweden sparks debate

The condition of 37-year-old Maria, who has autism and an intellectual disability, deteriorated severely after a transition from personal care services to a model provided by the municipality. The deterioration was marked by traumatic events, including her being detained, handcuffed, and taken to a psychiatric emergency room by the police during the night.

Additionally, Maria's dosage of sedative medication was increased, and she was locked in her own bedroom at night. As a result of these events, the young woman stopped eating and lost 17 kilos in just three months. Maria's foster mother states that the girl was doing much better during her personal assistance period.
