Two consecutive fires in Konya's Kulu district: Grass areas and electric motorcycle turn to ash

Reports of two separate fires occurring within the day have emerged in Karacadağ Neighborhood, part of Konya's Kulu district, causing concern among local residents. The first incident occurred after the grass and vegetation in the neighborhood caught fire, leading to an immediate report upon noticing the situation. Fire crews were dispatched to the region to intervene in this fire, and thanks to the timely and effective intervention of the teams, the flames were brought under control before spreading to other surrounding areas. While the fire was extinguished with local intervention, no loss of life or serious injury occurred during this process, preventing a potential major catastrophe.

Following the extinguishing of the first fire and the completion of the fire crews' work, a second fire report unexpectedly came from the same neighborhood. In the second incident, although the exact cause has not yet been determined, an electric motorcycle parked next to a workplace caught fire. The fire risks associated with the energy storage systems of electric vehicles have come to the fore in this case, and it was learned that the flames, emanating from the motorcycle's body, grew rapidly in a short time and spread to the roof of the adjacent workplace.

At this critical moment, Karacadağ Neighborhood Mosque Imam Muhammed Mücteba İrenci, who was in the region, performed the first intervention on the fire thanks to his presence at the scene and fulfilled his duty. Imam İrenci's initial calm intervention is significant in preventing the fire from spreading to the entire workplace or other buildings before it was stopped. Subsequently, the fire crews arriving at the address took over the struggle initiated by İrenci, brought the flames completely under control, and extinguished the fire before it could grow, preventing any loss of life.

Consequently, in the second fire as in the first, no loss of life or injury affecting human health occurred. However, the electric motorcycle, which was the source of the fire, burned completely and became unusable, suffering material damage. Additionally, it was determined that some material damage occurred on the roof of the workplace to which the flames spread. Following the event, an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the fire, and detailed examinations are continuing.

These events have once again highlighted the importance of local people and related units being constantly alert against fire risks, which increase especially in the summer months. Society needs to be informed and necessary precautions taken regarding both fires in natural vegetation and the potential risks of electric vehicles. This double fire in Kulu district has demonstrated how quickly the indicated risks can grow even in small-scale neighborhoods and the vital importance of the coordinated work of emergency response teams.
