Retirees in Kütahya Focus on July Raise, Estimates Point to 18%

Retirees living in Kütahya province, emphasizing the difficult situation they face due to the cost of living and the inadequacy of their income levels, have focused on the regulations to be made by the government. It is stated that even though they are not part of the metropolitan population, economic difficulties also affect retirees in the region, and eyes are turned to the rate of increase that will be reflected in salaries in July. This rate of increase, which closely interests millions of retirees, and the net increase in salaries will be indexed to the June inflation data to be announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK). While retirees expect to learn clearly how much will be reflected in their salaries with the data to be announced by official institutions, interest in economic indicators is increasing day by day.

Economists evaluating the subject stated that they expect the inflation difference formed in the six-month period to be realized at approximately 18 percent. According to sector representatives, if this rate becomes definite, the salaries of millions of retirees across Turkey will be recalculated and this raise will have been effectively reflected in the salaries. Another scenario frequently discussed in the public and in the press is that the lowest retirement pension could be raised to the level of 24,000 TL in line with minimum wage figures through a possible legal regulation by the government. However, no official written statement has yet come from the government side regarding these claims and expectations, and the situation maintains its uncertainty.

The Kütahya Retirees Association and its authorized bodies state at every platform that the rate of increase to be made to salaries alone will not be sufficient to solve existing problems. The association members and managers, advocating for the production of more comprehensive and structural solutions to eliminate income inequality among retirees, are repeating their calls for an 'İntibak Yasası' (Adjustment Law). In the statements made by the association, it is emphasized that salary increases alone will not make a difference in the long run, and permanent and radical legal regulations are needed to increase the welfare level of retirees. These demands rank at the top of the agenda of the retiree population in Kütahya.
