Meta's smart glasses officially enter Peru: AI-powered features and prices

Technology giant Meta has officially brought its smart glasses series to the Peru market, presenting a new category of wearable technology integrated into daily life to users. With this launch, Meta aims to fundamentally change the way people interact with their surroundings by combining AI-powered assistants, embedded camera systems, and voice command features with classic eyewear frames. According to the company's official statements, these devices, which offer hands-free usage, are equipped with the power of Meta AI to enrich the world users hear and see with digital data and promise a constantly connected experience by reducing phone dependency.

This next-generation technology released in Peru arrives in collaboration with popular eyewear brands Ray-Ban and Oakley, offering a wide range in terms of both fashion and functionality. The Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) series is optimized for photography and daily use with its 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera, open-ear audio system, and Meta AI integration, while 'Optics' versions that can be preferred as non-prescription or prescription glasses in the same frames are also available. On the other hand, the Oakley Meta (HSTN and Vanguard) models prepared for sports enthusiasts have a durable structure appealing to ambitious athletes and outdoor activity lovers with dust and water resistance and special performance lenses (PRIZM™).

The most striking feature of these smart glasses is the ability to receive instant information and translation via voice commands without needing to take out the phone, thanks to the Meta AI artificial intelligence assistant integrated onto the frame. Users can activate the artificial intelligence via the 'Hey Meta' command or a physical button, ask questions about the world around them, get instant translation support, or request suggestions for different situations. Additionally, the devices feature advanced audio technology that allows users to make phone calls or listen music without isolating them from the environment, thanks to a multi-microphone system and open-ear speakers.

When looking at hardware features, all models are equipped with hidden cameras capable of taking first-person perspective photos and videos with a resolution of 12 MP. While Ray-Ban models offer different style options such as Wayfarer, Headliner, and Skyler, lens options include sunglasses, polarized, color-changing Transitions® lenses, and prescription glasses. Oakley models stand out with IP67 and IPX4 water/dust durability certifications, and are designed to maximize visibility during high-movement sports activities such as training, cycling, or running thanks to PRIZM™ lens technology.

The pricing of these smart glasses, which are offered for sale at authorized dealers in Peru, varies according to features and brand collaboration; the prices for the standard Ray-Ban Meta models, the most accessible option, start from the 1,690 Sol (approximately 450 dollars) band. The Ray-Ban Meta Optics series designed for users needing prescription lenses is offered for sale starting from the 1,890 Sol level due to display customizations and lightweight material usage, while the sports-focused and more durable Oakley Meta models are presented to consumers with price tags starting from 2,190 Sol. This launch constitutes an important part of Meta's strategy to increase technology penetration in the Latin American market and turn everyday clothing items into smart devices.
