1 Dead, 44 Injured in Passenger Bus Overturning into an Embankment on Niğde-Ankara Highway

The horrific accident that occurred yesterday at the 207th kilometer of the Niğde-Ankara highway, in the location of Babakonağı village of Aksaray province, happened when a bus conducting international passenger transportation lost control. In the incident, which is the subject of a prosecutor's investigation, the Mercedes brand passenger bus with the license plate 65 BJ 369, traveling from İstanbul towards Irak, left the road after the driver lost control of the steering wheel. The vehicle rolled directly into the embankment on the right side of the road without hitting any obstacles or another vehicle in front of it, causing a major tragedy. The route where the accident occurred is known as a critically important transit point, especially for intense intercity and international transit freight and passenger traffic. With the impact of the accident, the front and side windows of the bus were completely shattered, and a total of 44 people inside the vehicle survived the incident with injuries. Among the injured in the vehicle were the bus driver Yahya A. and other vehicle personnel, including 41 passengers, the majority of whom were Irak nationals.
