In Nigeria, APC Uploads 471 Candidates to INEC Portal for 2027 Elections

Nigeria's ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), announced that it has successfully completed its candidate nomination process for the 2027 general elections. President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima were officially endorsed as the party's presidential ticket. The party fulfilled its legal obligations by uploading the details of 471 candidates to the nomination portal before the deadline set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This development indicates the end of months of uncertainty and marks a significant milestone in the party's election preparations. The candidate list includes 109 senatorial and 360 House of Representatives candidates, in addition to the president and vice president.

APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, in a written statement issued immediately after the closure of the INEC nomination portal, stated that the process was successfully completed. Yilwatda emphasized that the party fully complied with the relevant provisions of the Electoral Act and met all the commission's requirements. Furthermore, he congratulated party members, noting that 100 percent of the presidential, vice-presidential, senatorial, and House of Representatives candidates had been uploaded to the portal. Yilwatda added that this success represents a major step in the party's preparations for the upcoming general elections, stating that the party will now focus on increasing votes and the election campaign.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had set Saturday, 11 July, at 18:00 as the final deadline for political parties to submit their presidential and legislative candidates via the online portal. The commission granted political parties access to the nomination portal on 26 June, and the application process began the following day. This process was conducted in accordance with the provisions of Section 29(1) of the 2026 Electoral Act. APC completed the procedure flawlessly by digitizing all necessary documents without missing this deadline. Thus, APC took its place among the political parties that complied with INEC's deadline.

This development holds great importance for the party's internal dynamics and future strategy on the Nigerian political stage. The confirmation that Tinubu and Shettima will run together again has helped clarify alliances and power balances within the party.
