Firearms and Large Quantity of Drugs Seized in Ordu Drug Operation

Under the coordination of the Ordu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and with the participation of the Ordu Provincial Police Department Narcotic Crimes Branch teams, a comprehensive drug operation was carried out across the city on 1 July 2026. Looking at the details of the operation, it is seen that it was not limited to the seizure of substances, but also a multi-faceted intervention regarding possession of weapons and drug trafficking. In the studies carried out by the security forces, firearms and a large amount of ammunition were seized as criminal elements, as well as synthetic drug types known for their high value in the market. While the operation was a major blow to drug dealing networks in the region, it once again demonstrated the determination of the law enforcement units in the fight against crime.

In the searches and operations carried out by the security forces, it was determined that there were unlicensed firearms along with drugs of various types and quantities. Among the seized substances were 342.5 grams of raw material known as bonzai, 34.12 grams of processed bonzai, 2.97 grams of methamphetamine, and 1.50 grams of marijuana. In addition, 45 synthetic drug pills ready for release were safely seized by the teams and kept under storage for destruction. Regarding the firearms dimension of the operation; legal action was taken on 1 unlicensed pistol, 2 smoothbore hunting rifles, and 74 cartridges of 9x19 mm caliber believed to belong to these weapons. These findings strengthen the possibility that the suspects were operating with an armed structure as well as drug trafficking.

Legal processes regarding the total of 15 suspects referred to the judicial authorities have been completed and evaluated by the court. Two of the suspects brought before the judge were released under judicial control according to their statements and the current evidence within the scope of the investigation. However, as a result of the examination based on the nature of the crime and the evidence, a detention decision was made for 11 suspects on charges of manufacturing and supplying drugs. The detained persons were handed over to prison upon the request of the Ordu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, and the investigation and prosecution processes against them are ongoing. These decisions were given considering the severity of drug trafficking under the Turkish Penal Code and the threat it poses to public health.

The main purpose of such operations carried out to prevent drug trade is to protect society, especially the young generation, from harmful substances and to dry up the financial resources of criminal organizations. Operations carried out in cooperation with police department teams and prosecutors aim to prevent the formation of new potential victims by disrupting the supply-demand balance in the market, as well as catching criminals. This last operation in Ordu has gone down as one of the concrete steps taken to ensure order and security throughout the city. It is emphasized that similar operations will continue decisively in the future and that the fight against drug addiction is one of the state's most important priorities. This situation makes it mandatory for local administrations and non-governmental organizations to support awareness activities.

On the other hand, looking at the social upheavals and legal dimensions of the operation, it is seen that a transparent process is carried out within the framework of the rule of law principle. The rights of the detained suspects were protected within the framework of legal procedures and a fair trial process was ensured. Considering the amount of synthetic pills and raw materials seized, it is evaluated that the operation may shed light on sales networks at a regional level, not just locally. Officials stated that intelligence studies are ongoing to ensure this operation reveals similar activities in other provinces. The continuity of the fight against elements threatening public health is of great importance for the safety and peace of the citizens.
