Pakistan facilitated first talks between Iran and US after 47 years

Pakistan Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan stated that Pakistan acted as a sincere mediator to resolve the dispute between Iran and the US, bringing the two countries that had not spoken to each other for 47 years to the table. Referring to the agreement signed in Islamabad, he emphasized that it was proof of Pakistan's peace efforts. The spokesperson stated that political dialogue and diplomacy, not war, are the solution to conflicts and the path to lasting peace in the region.

R4 countries' foreign ministers discussed fundamental regional and global challenges such as the US-Israel-Iran conflict, the Israel-Palestine situation, Houthi attacks in Yemen, and maritime security in the Hormuz, Bab el-Mandeb, and Red Sea. The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to dialogue, de-escalation, and peaceful resolution of disputes. They decided to continue consultations for regional peace.

Pakistan found the Afghan Taliban government's claims of civilian casualties in counter-terrorism operations baseless and unverified. It stated that the danger of terrorist networks operating from Afghan soil cannot be concealed by misleading propaganda. It reported that terror attacks in Pakistan have caused more than 3,500 deaths, and that more than 1,400 people died in 2026 alone. It strongly condemned the Houthi missile attacks targeting Saudi Arabia's Mecca and Medina regions and announced that the 25-member crew was safe in the attack on the LNG tanker.
