Russia Denies NATO Attack Allegations: We Are Open to Dialogue

Vladislav Maslennikov, Head of the European Affairs Department at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, clearly stated in a declaration to the RIA Novosti agency that his country has no intention of attacking NATO member states. Maslennikov reminded that this issue has been repeatedly emphasized by Russian officials before. However, he pointed out that unfounded allegations regarding a possible attack plan by Russia are constantly kept on the agenda in Western media and some political circles. Despite all this tension and speculation, he argued that Russia's fundamental foreign policy goals are not based on causing conflict. The official stated that Moscow's priority is not a military conflict, but ensuring stability within its own national borders and in neighboring regions.

Maslennikov, noting that Moscow is always open to constructive dialogue with NATO but that this dialogue depends on certain conditions, stated that the primary prerequisite is that Russia's legitimate interests must be taken into account. He emphasized that adherence to fundamental principles is essential for ensuring international security. He underlined that one of the most critical elements among these principles is the concept of 'indivisibility of security'. The official argued that while ensuring its own security, a country must not jeopardize the security of another; otherwise, permanent peace would not be possible. In this regard, he stated that Russia seeks treatment among equals and mutual respect in any cooperation with NATO.

On the other hand, Maslennikov leveled serious criticism regarding NATO's founding philosophy and current actions, claiming that the alliance is constantly in pursuit of creating an external enemy. According to his view, NATO operates as an organization structurally built on confrontation. He claimed that the alliance tends to realize its geopolitical interests through the use of military force and threats. Maslennikov stated that this attitude makes it impossible to take joint cooperation steps toward ensuring security and stability in the international arena. The Russian diplomat added that if NATO genuinely aims for global peace, it must abandon its power-based policies and adopt a cooperation-oriented approach.
