Midnight Traffic Closure on Selanik Inner Ring Road: Flyover Works Continue

A major traffic arrangement is being implemented in the eastern section of the Inner Ring Road in Selanik, Yunanistan'ın ikinci büyük şehri (Greece's second largest city). Vehicle traffic heading west between the K6 (Meteora) and K5 (Eukarpia) junctions will be completely stopped during the night hours. In this context, a closure will be implemented lasting until the early hours of Sunday morning. Authorities warned drivers to avoid passing through the area during these hours.

According to an official statement from the Selanik Trafik Şube Müdürlüğü, traffic flow in the westbound direction will be interrupted at 23.00. Traffic will not be able to pass through this route until 05.00 on Sunday morning. During this time period, all vehicles will be completely prohibited from passing near the K6 (Meteora) interchange. In order to reduce the impact of the works on public travel, the authorities specifically arranged this closure measure during the night hours when traffic volume is relatively low. This scheduling reflects the efforts of city management to strike a balance between infrastructure construction and citizens' daily lives. Drivers are strongly advised to be aware of this information in advance and consider alternative time windows when traveling.

Due to the closure, it will become mandatory for all vehicles to exit at the K6 (Meteora) junction level. After leaving this point, drivers will have to use Andreas Papandreu Bulvarı as an alternative route. Then, they will need to continue to their destinations via the city's local road network. This comprehensive traffic redirection is expected to cause significant delays, especially for drivers traveling to the city center or western regions late at night. Therefore, the Selanik Trafik Şube Müdürlüğü advises drivers to plan their progress carefully and follow the directions on city signage.

Only the westbound traffic flow will be affected by this temporary closure; vehicles traveling in the eastbound direction will be able to continue their normal flow without any disruption. Authorities stated that this one-way separation was considered to minimize the impact on intercity and regional transportation as much as possible. Keeping the eastbound direction open will ensure that the connection between certain parts of the city is largely maintained. However, despite everything, drivers still need to be careful to prevent unexpected congestion and allow extra time for potential bottlenecks.
