Massive Drone Attack Launched on Oil Terminal in St. Petersburg

Russia's St. Petersburg city was the scene of one of the largest-scale drone attacks of recent times. The focus of the attack was a strategically important oil terminal in the city's Kirovskiy district. St. Petersburg Governor Aleksandr Beglov, speaking about the event, stated that air defense systems against the attack were actively engaged. Official authorities shared with the public that there were some technical glitches during the attack, but these were quickly resolved and the operation on the terminal failed.

According to the detailed statement by Governor Beglov, defense elements in the region managed to neutralize a total of 72 different unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This high number served as an important indicator of how the attack was coordinated and the air defense power in the region. Thanks to this successful intervention by the defense systems, major damage or fire at the oil facilities was prevented. Authorities emphasized that the heavy air traffic was brought under control and the threat was eliminated.

The range and impact area of the UAVs that fell during the attack also alarmed other points of the city. According to spoken information, one of the neutralized drones fell near the Petergof Palace, which is considered a historical and cultural heritage. This situation caused the security protocols around the palace and its surroundings to be reviewed, while it was stated that investigations were started at the scene. While no structural damage or fire was reported in the area where the palace is located, it was learned that the falling parts caused fear and panic among the locals.

Governor Beglov and authorized authorities clearly stated in their joint statements that the attack did not cause loss of life and material damage remained limited. Although targeting critical infrastructure facilities like the Petroleum terminal maintains the severity of the situation, it was noted that a disaster was prevented thanks to the timely intervention of the defense systems. Following the event, security measures were raised to the highest level for facility personnel and local residents in the region. Emergency teams and the fire department were kept on standby against possible fire risks.

While there is no official confirmation regarding the exact source of the attack and the identity of the perpetrator behind it, the investigation and examinations regarding the incident continue to be deepened.
