16,4 Tons of Medical Aid Dispatched from Türkiye to Venezuela

The effects of the earthquakes that deeply shook Venezuela on 24 Haziran 2026 and caused massive destruction are still ongoing. Following this devastating disaster in the country, an international aid mobilization has been initiated to restore health services in the region and meet the needs. Türkiye has not remained indifferent to this humanitarian aid and has carried out a comprehensive support effort coordinated by the Sağlık Bakanlığı. As part of this effort, vital medical materials were rapidly procured in line with the lists of urgent needs coming from the earthquake zone. Thus, Türkiye has once again shown that it stands by the Venezuelan people in their difficult days and has actively participated in the crisis response process.

As part of the aid operation conducted by the Türkiye Sağlık Bakanlığı, a total of 16,4 tons of humanitarian aid materials were prepared and dispatched. The content of this shipment, aimed at meeting the most critical needs of the earthquake victims and field hospitals, was shaped directly in accordance with the requests conveyed by Venezuelan authorities. The aid materials, procured and packaged in a short time, consist of medications in 31 different items and medical consumables in 36 items. This medical support, arranged on a total of 25 pallets, will help prevent potential health crises in the region and treat the injured. Authorities stated that the process from the procurement to the logistics of the materials was carried out meticulously and with great coordination.

The delivery process of the aid materials was carried out through the effective use of Türkiye's logistical capabilities. Accordingly, the truck departing from İzmir by road first delivered the prepared medical materials to Kayseri. From Kayseri, the aid materials were dispatched to Venezuela by air as of today. This multi-stage logistical operation aims to deliver the materials to the earthquake zone in the fastest and safest way possible. This operation, which involved the combined use of road and air transport, reveals how complex a planning international humanitarian aids require. With this shipment, Türkiye has turned its solidarity towards its ally in Latin America into a concrete step.

This disaster that deeply shook Venezuela occurred with two major consecutive earthquakes that are rarely seen worldwide, taking place on 25 Haziran. According to official data shared by the Amerika Birleşik Devletleri Jeolojik Araştırma Merkezi (USGS), the first tremor was recorded with a magnitude of 7.2. The second tremor, which occurred only 39 seconds after the first earthquake, reached a magnitude of 7.5, further increasing the destruction in the region. The epicenters of the earthquakes were identified around Yumare and San Felipe in the country's Yaracuy state. These tremors caused large-scale infrastructure damage and victimized many people in the country, making it imperative for international aid to reach the region urgently.

These consecutive earthquakes in Venezuela have placed a heavy burden on the country's already fragile infrastructure. The occurrence of two major tremors back-to-back in a short period has made search and rescue operations and the continuation of health services extremely difficult. In this context, the 16,4 tons of medical support sent by Türkiye plays a critical role in preventing the collapse of the health system in the region. The medications and medical consumables will ensure the uninterrupted continuation of treatment processes in field hospitals and temporary health centers. This aid, carried out by Türkiye through its Sağlık Bakanlığı, once again demonstrates how vital inter-country solidarity and rapid response are during international crises.
