7 people stranded in Van Gölü were rescued by police teams

Within the borders of Tatvan district connected to Van and in Van Gölü, the largest lake in Turkey by surface area, an incident on a hot summer day caused a brief tension. A group of 7 people, including 3 children and 4 adults, who set out on a zodiac-type boat to spend time in the calm but often lively waters of the lake off the shores of Kıyıdüzü village, faced an unexpected situation. It was reported that this group lost control suddenly or was stranded due to a technical malfunction in this vast pool where there are no restrictions on speeding boats. Upon the call for help from the citizens experiencing the moment of deprivation, the process of dispatching necessary teams to the region was initiated and action was taken according to the urgency of the situation.

Immediately after the notification reached the Governorship and relevant law enforcement forces, specially trained and equipped police teams affiliated with the Tatvan Deniz Limanı Şube Müdürlüğü were assigned to reach the scene. Police boats arriving quickly at the coordinates where the incident occurred saw the group waiting helplessly in the middle of the lake and started the operation. After a short period of work, the teams determined that the stranded 7 people could not propel the boat with their own means or could not return to shore safely. The police teams, displaying a calm and professional approach, prevented any panic, including among the elderly and children, and took the 7 people into the secure police boat one by one.

After the rescue operation was successfully completed, the citizens, who were taken into custody safely, were taken to the nearest safe pier, the pier within the Tatvan Polis Kampı campus. Health checks were performed on the individuals who set foot on land, and in a statement made by the authorities, it was stated that fortunately no injury or traumatic situation was experienced during the incident. The fact that those stranded in the boat were able to reach land safe and sound after a difficult process of a few hours was greeted with great relief by their families and loved ones. The citizens were seen to be in high morale and motivation and to have no physical damage after the misfortune they experienced.

Authorities and security units in the region issued a series of warnings to citizens entering the sea or traveling by boats on Van Gölü due to the basin characteristics of the lake and suddenly changing weather conditions. These warnings emphasize that unpredictable winds or waves in the lake's vast area can pose great risks for small boats and that they should not set out based solely on their personal opinions. In order to prevent possible accidents or loss of life, it is stipulated that those who want to cool off, especially with rising temperatures in the afternoon hours, must take all necessary measures without endangering their lives. It was stated that wearing life jackets, having communication devices, and following meteorological warnings on ships and boats are of vital importance.

This incident brings a mistake frequently seen in Van Gölü in the summer season and a situation threatening public security back to the agenda, also taking on an important mission in terms of enlightening the local people and tourists. Such incidents, which may occur due to lack of technical equipment or inexperience, put not only the lives of individuals but also the lives of personnel on duty to help them at risk. While no loss of life was experienced thanks to the sacrifice of the teams, the storm of this emergency could have mitigated by acting cautiously in advance. As a result of the investigations, it was learned that the zodiac boat would be towed to the area where it was rescued and handed over to its owner, and procedures would be initiated regarding whether an administrative sanction would be applied to the relevant persons.
