Cases of Snake Worm Infection Increasing in Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam

The Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam, announced that many individuals have tested positive for snake worm (gnathostomiasis) following examinations and tests. This parasitic disease is usually transmitted to humans through the consumption of raw or undercooked seafood and meat.

In a statement made by the authorities, it was warned that if the infection is not diagnosed early and treated, it can lead to severe health problems. If the disease progresses, patients may experience life-threatening complications such as intestinal obstruction, blood poisoning (sepsis), and meningitis.

This situation has highlighted the need for citizens in the region to pay strict attention to food hygiene and to seek medical care immediately if suspicious symptoms appear. Doctors continue to raise public awareness through announcements, urging the public to take basic precautions to prevent the spread of the disease.
