US Vice President JD Vance confirmed this week that the deadly attack on a wedding ceremony in southern Iran is being investigated. Reuters expert analysis indicates the explosion was likely caused by a direct hit from a US missile, not a ricochet.
Iranian state television reported that a total of 5 people, including a 22-year-old woman, were killed and approximately 70 injured as a result of the attack. Funeral ceremonies were held in Kühnestak village, affiliated with Sirik district. While the US military maintains it does not target civilians, an anonymous US official listed possible scenarios including a US strike, a stray Iranian air defense missile, or a faulty communication missile.
Washington struck Iranian military targets on the coast of the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran responded against US bases in Iraq, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Tensions pushed oil prices to levels unseen since July, driving Brent crude above $96 per barrel. No major attacks were reported from either side on Thursday.
